Unprecedented ‘TimeSplitters Rewind’ Fan Project Becomes Indie PS4 Game

TimeSplitters Rewind

Thanks to the blessing of Crytek as well as the ingenuity and follow-through of their extremely passionate fanbase, the following TimeSplitters Fan Remake titled ‘TimeSplitters Rewind’ has been approved for release as a free-to-play Indie PlayStation 4 game (it will also release on PC and feature cross-platform multiplayer). Pantheonyx is the name of the development team behind this, and you can even catch some extremely early build footage in the High Definition video embedded below, but be sure to heed the reading that has been released alongside it by those who are working on the game right now.

Those of us who fell in love with the classic series since its PlayStation 2 debut will be happy to finally see something release using this IP. Many believe Crytek will allow this release to serve as a test of the demand for the TimeSplitters IP and to re-ignite the flame for a potential official fourth release in the series.

“THIS BUILD IS FROM 2.5 – 3 MONTHS INTO DEVELOPMENT. THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR WHERE WE ARE CURRENTLY AT IN DEVELOPMENT. THIS IS PRE-ALPHA FOOTAGE. MOST OF THE GAMEPLAY ISN’T EVEN IMPLEMENTED IN THIS BUILD.

With that being said – this is part 1 of 3. In this video I talk about why we haven’t really updated the community with anything. In short if you don’t want to listen to me rant for 10 minutes – we are perfectionists. We don’t want to release something we know isn’t finished yet and is prone to significant changes.

Part 2 will feature an update regarding the PlayStation 4 release and some discussion on TSR functionality.

Part 3 will talk about donations and we will go into detail as to what it’s being applied to and what fans who donate get in return for their generosity. There might be some additional updates along the way during Part 2 and Part 3 that are unplanned updates, but I hope you enjoy them.

Thank you all so much for everything you do!

Online Critics: To Respond Or To Ignore? Devs Need To Learn Something…

Do Not Feed the Trolls

There’s a difference between “caring about the fans” and engaging in childish, all out war with them on social networks like Twitter. Sometimes people end up promoting what they disagree with when in reality they should have just not responded at all. Not to mention, if you fail to get your point across you just may wind up with a backfire effect causing you to look like the ignorant one. In many cases, game developers try to use their popularity, critical acclaim, and of course financial backing to hush up people who may not even be well known but are just trolling for the sake of it. Sometimes these people are trolling you knowing that you are an unstable person and at any moment could snap and make yourself look like a fool in public.

Preying constantly on your demise, these people can be dealt with by your legal team if they cross the boundary and begin to do things like threaten you. And if you just can’t take the personal attacks from non-threatening, criticizing fans of your games; hire somebody else to run your social accounts because it’s not going to stop. Just a brief word of advice, if you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. There’s no sense continuing to detriment your mental health by allowing people to barrage you if it effects you in such a negative way. You can either take Cliffy B’s recent advice to Phil Fish which is basically to man up and use the energy to fuel your projects forward, or you can just take my advice and let somebody else take over your social presence. Of course there is the third option which many Japanese developers seem to understand, which is to just not have a social presence at all. You are paid to make video games not express opinions and be a figurehead who feels the need to police the internet of every single trolling post you find out there.

For an industry that is struggling to gain recognition as art still, and therefore be awarded full freedom of speech rights by the planet’s government systems, game companies sure do try to silence the haters a lot. All these haters are doing is promoting you though. Just because somebody reads something negative about you doesn’t mean they agree with it. Even if they don’t speak out to defend you, they may completely disagree with the hateful comment and instead check out your product and become a fan. Ride the wave instead of trying to stop it and becoming swept up in the current looking yourself like a negative commentator that the silent majority do not agree with. And one other thing, the vocal minority of your “fans” which seem to be always nit-picking in forums and offering their own grand design ideas should not ALWAYS be listened to. Forum jockeys are the reason why Warhawk’s perfect damage balance became trash after community-influenced updates and the same reason why Starhawk was created and released to a very uncaring community who turned their back on the game that was created almost entirely based on fan feedback.

Learn something from this game developers, I’m begging you. Make your own game ideas, and screw what the haters think; even if that hater is sometimes me.

Mirror’s Edge: DAEDALUS – A fan-film spiritual sequel on IndieGoGo

Mirrors Edge Fan Film

We recently saw the rise and fall of a preposterous $400,000 Final Fantasy VII Fan Fic Flick which Square Enix stomped out before it surpassed $25,000. That was possibly not the best way to go about things from a Kickstarter group who never even presented as much as a company logo or name. But here’s what we consider fan-fic done right. Mirror’s Edge: Daedalus, a fan-film spiritual sequel is on IndieGoGo and as of yet DICE and EA Games have yet to silence the voice of the fans on this one. Will you donate? Will you demand this be taken down for IP holder’s rights? You decide, trailer below; link here.

Final Fantasy VII – The Web Series Kickstarter taken down by Square Enix

Crisis Core
Screenshot from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on PSP.

Near the end of July, a Kickstarter project was launched in an attempt to raise funds for an unofficial Final Fantasy VII live action web series. The ambitious creators wanted to raise a whopping $400,000 for the project. Many fans were really excited to finally see something like this being undertaken but others were skeptical that it could be pulled off. $400,000 is a lot of money. Would Square Enix really allow such a high budget series to be made based on one of their intellectual properties? Series director Gionata Medeot told gaming sites such as Kotaku that he wasn’t worried about Square Enix’s laywers taking the project down.

Well it looks like he should have been a little worried, since the project was officially taken off the Kickstarter website today.  Square Enix sent Kickstarter an official-sounding letter telling them the project was in violation of their copyrighted intellectual property. Prior to being taken down, the project had raised around $25,000. Here is the full text of the letter, as linked on what was previously the project’s Kickstarter page:

MegaMan Unlimited: A Fan Made MegaMan Game Being Hosted by MegaPhil X

MegaMan Unlimited 2013

Fan-made games have often been some of the most amazing (albeit short-lived) releases in video game history. They’ve also been some of the most underground and hard to find if a corporate giant decides to erase them from the public internet. MegaMan Unlimited is the latest that the gaming world has caught wind of. Even if you are only vaguely interested in the series and title, you owe it to yourself to grab a copy now since MegaPhil X may or may not have been sanctioned by Capcom to do this free-to-play and free-to-distribute content. Capcom is usually pretty awesome about community relations, but just in case click HERE and download now. Some of the game’s features include:

-8 action-packed Robot Masters stages.
-1 secret Robot Master stage.
-9 special weapons + 2 abilities for Rush.
-A set of 4 final stages
-An item shop where Megaman can purchase items using gathered Bolts.
-A data save & load function

Much respect to everyone who worked on this project and endured its 5 year development cycle! You are an inspiration to all indie developers, gamers, fans, and everything in between. Check out the trailer below:

Attention RGN Community

RGN Community

‘Ello everybody! Pwnagraphic here. Of course you knew that because the it says “By Pwnagraphic”. Dur..

Allow me to start off by giving a big thanks to the RGN crew for accepting me as one of them. I really appreciate these guys taking me in and allowing me to help support and develop this site and community. I look forward to bringing everyone news, entertainment, and pure sexiness to this website. Now, that said.

I have also been seeing a lot of the fun and exciting things we have going on behind the scenes that I am sure a lot of you are really going to enjoy. Not that they told me, but more that I spied on them in their Skype meeting under another, totally not obvious, incognito alias of “Notpwnagraphic”. They were not wise to my act and I found out a lot of information. Of course I can’t divulge that to you just yet, but you will enjoy what we have in store for you here. So that brings me to this.

I want to ask you, the community, what you would like to see out of this website? Is there something you like to see more of?  Less of?

Perhaps you have some ideas of your own that’ll help improve the site and make RGN your go to site for news.

As I said before. We have a lot of stuff we’re cookin’ up, and it’s going to taste good. Of course this takes time and resources, and with everything really coming together we hope to have the ball rolling on them real soon.

Well, peeps. I am signing off for now. Please, feel free to leave any feedback in the comments below. Except you. I don’t like you. You know who you are.

Real Gamer Wish List – Infamous 3 (Second Son)

Just a while back Sucker Punch Productions announced Infamous 3 (also known as Infamous: Second Son) for this year’s upcoming Sony PlayStation 4. Here’s my wish-list of the Top 5 Fan Requests I have for Infamous 3.

5.) (Actual impactive moral choices). Infamous has a bad case of giving you choices that honestly don’t have much impact on the overall story other than the black in white of evil and good. I would love to see more choices that drastically change the story if Sucker Punch is still leaving the moral choice system standing for Infamous:second sun.

4.) (Better moral choices) Infamous i have to say has some of the worst moral choices i have ever seen. Like for example in Infamous 1 you go underground to power up a part of town and their is a man named Brandon in the sewer’s. Cole asks him to open the door to access the generator of the sewers, but is too afraid and refuses to do it. Cole’s choices are:

Good: Tell Brandon that his wife is dead, and that Cole promises to take out every reaper on the Neon. That then convinces him to open the door.

Evil: Shock the door apart which also kills Brandon in the process of opening the door.

Is it just me or does this seem a little strange of a choice? Usually when you have a moral choice the “Bad” option  is a simpler one that gives you something through means of violence. Cole does not gain anything more through frying him and it seems easier to just tell him his wife is dead in the first place. These kinds of choices do not make a lot of sense and i hope they improve upon this.

3.) (Gun based attacks) Although it would of seemed strange to of seen Cole pick up a rifle and shoot back at enemies, i feel like now that our new protagonist isn’t a walking Tesla coil that guns could work very well into the combat. Maybe some gun channeling were you could charge up shot with fire and unleash a fiery barrage of bullets.

2.) (online Co-op) This may or may not break the way the game is meant to be played but i would love to see a co-op system implicated in Infamous: Second Sun. If i would break the flow of the game then a side-campaign could make that all possible.(Ex. Farcry 3’s co-op)

1.) (Stealth mechanics) I know infamous isn’t a stealth kind of game but ever since i saw that our new protagonist had the ability to turn into smoke, stealth just seem’s like it would work incredibly well and would be a nice change of pace. Just imagine smoking through an air duct and dropping down behind an unsuspecting enemy, the possibilities are endless.

Is Starhawk Overflowing with Noobs?

They need to work on all the noobs in the game, it’s just rediculous. All people do is get in hawks, pick up cluster and destroy your base and team over and over and they put on their shield. They dont even give you a chance to rebuild. Then the other half of their team are coming over in jetpacks jumping and shooting everyone with rocket launchers at the same time, do you know how hard it is to get out of that?

If it isn’t the hawks, it’s the tanks and their missiles, too many people hack with both vehicles and it makes the game very less enjoyable. I’m so sick of the noobs, especially that clan “Terror Squad” that’s all they do is noob in the game, no one in starhawk likes that clan!!

It’s bad enough i always end up on the crappiest team anyway, but the noobing needs to stop, LBI you guys really need to lower the power on those hawks and tanks or create more defensive strength for razorbacks, sidewinders and defensive structures. I really leave matches with tanks because they just always manage to flood your base

God of War 4 Trailer Leaked – Is it Real?

A new trailer has been circulating the web from a supposedly leaked God of War IV PR campaign set to launch in the near future. We have no way of knowing if it’s real or not at this time, and few details exist that can be considered concrete and solid. If you are a die-hard Kratos fan you may be interested to know that the brother of Kratos (Deimos) may be getting some more time in the franchise with the latest entry.

It is very likely that this is a fake video created by the fans, but with the recent Assassin’s Creed III occurrence, who knows? Take a look at the video below and judge for yourself. Here’s to hoping that God of War IV is able to take us by surprise in one way or another and re-ignite all of our passions for the series.
