WTF Wednesdays: inFamous Condoms

WTF Wedsnesday

Welcome to another edition of WTF Wednesdays, where we bring you gaming related content that makes you go wtf, be it what, who or why?As I’m sure you’ve already put together from the title and picture, this week’s topic revolves around developer Super Punch’s latest title and condoms.

What does inFamous: Second Son have to do with condoms you ask? Well in the context of the game, nothing, nothing at all. Regardless of the fact, it didn’t stop GameStop from offering special themed condoms as a pre-order bonus. Yeah you read that right.

Infamous condoms

If you are wondering how come you never heard (For those of you who haven’t) of this pre-order bonus, it is because this was exclusive to GameStop in Italy. I myself just learned of this ridiculousness today. But that’s not all…

Glow condoms

Yep, they glow in the dark

wtfjackie

Yes Mr. Chan, what the f*** were they thinking indeed. Who thought this was a good idea? I’m not saying gamers don’t get laid or anything like that but no, just no. Imagine the wrong kind of message the parents got, when purchasing the game for their young teens and such. How awkward it must have been to show up on release day to receive not only the game but a box of condoms as well. Also why the f*@# do they glow in the dark, what purpose does that serve? Are they in case of a potential blackout and you need to find your way to..*ahem*.

Seriously, what the f***?

First introduced by Sucker Punch for inFamous: Second Son on the PS4, ‘Photo Mode’ allows players to pause the game at any moment and take photos of whatever they choose. Infamous: Second Son Review

inFamousSecondSon22

As a long time fan of Infamous I was somewhat excited to grab this with little to no expectations. From the get go my mind was blown though. The motion control mechanics with the controller as well as the pads are used in maybe not the most useful way, but in an awesome way that makes me constantly keep wanting to go back for more. Infamous: Second Son is by far the best in the series and possibly the best PS4 game currently out.

Infamous-Second-Son-TH-600x300

The gameplay has not changed much, but they fine tuned the combat to always feel like a rush and a challenge depending on how you go about it. It features 4 new powers of which I will barely go in to for spoiler reasons, but one thing to say about the powers, is each feels different, useful, and each has their own fun thing to them. The powers are amazing and each differ from the last.

At the beginning of the game I remember thinking “Wow! Smoke is awesome!” but by the end I felt it sucked compared to the other powers. All of them are great, but some of them do overshadow the rest. Even then though you enjoy your stay with all the powers regardless.

Second Son’s plot is an improvement over its predecessor’s. While the morality choices do not change the story like they used to, they do shape how Delsin acts, looks, and how he is treated by the citizens of Seattle. The story missions are more of the same with the exception of key morality missions that allow you to choose to either go the good route or the bad. As for that good Delsin is…. well good.

I really like his character being the good guy, but when playing evil he turns in to quiet an evil douche. The endings differ as well; with the good ending you feel good about yourself and your choices, but the consequences of your actions in the evil ending feels pure evil and left me personally thinking “Oh good Lord, what have I done?” which I suppose is the desired effect of evil overall. While the story is predictable at times, when your prediction comes to light you still feel the power behind it and are somewhat in awe.

InfamousSS25

Delsin is a more interesting protagonist than Cole, who starred in the previous games. While playing as Cole I never felt like his base character could ever truly be evil, but that is different for Delsin. His base character is a punk and it seems as if he can go either way just based on his mood. The supporting characters are great as well and benefit from well written dialogue.

The background story you get for each of them is always touching and unexpected. The characters are molded back Delsin’s actions as well and you can choose their redeeming/corruption missions based off of that. I really recommend going through on good first though because it made me feel a lot better about myself than the evil ending did. The good ending though brings out the best in each character and has Delsin finding the change he needs as well as the change the World needs.

Lets go on to talk about the World, which is pretty amazing overall. The city of Seattle is vibrant with citizens roaming the streets, random events that allow you to earn more karma, and the D.U.P. You have a choice of grabbing the random side missions which are entertaining, doing karma events, or just destroying the D.U.P around the area.

The city is huge, with beautiful graphics and a consistent frame rate. During my 2 playthroughs I did not see a single drop in the frame rate and redid a good amount of the side missions. They have the same feeling, but they are a nice throw away for your time. The spray paint artwork is awesome, the audio logs are interesting, chasing the D.U.P. Agents is fun, and the hidden cameras are… hidden!

inFamousSecondSon-3

The controls are spot on and the music is fantastic. The music is always around and always giving a great feeling. The voice actors are all great and all seem to fit in with their characters. The dialogue as I said before is all well written and feels genuine. Infamous: Second Son is also something that is easy to pick back up and get back in to.

After moving on and playing a couple of games with other friends I was able to pick the game back up and still enjoy my free-roam experience. The only complaint is that it won’t last too long as there isn’t too much to do after you 100% the game and acquire all the trophies. The Paper Trail is a great idea that helps, but Cole’s Legacy is nothing more than a free jacket. It adds nothing of value and the story for it is not very informative.

Overall though Infamous: Second Son is fantastic. It isn’t perfect, but the beautiful surroundings, stability, story, characters, and the morality choices really bring it all together making it the best Infamous to date. While the story may be predictable at times, it still doesn’t lessen the impact of its key moments.

The game’s morality choices may be lacking, but they help shape your character and the conduits he picks up along the way. Both endings are satisfying in their own ways and drastically change the person that Delsin and his followers become. If you own a PS4 and haven’t bought this game you need to. It is a great exclusive that should bring you hours of enjoyment and awe. Not to mention the fact that if you are a fan of Infamous you should be very surprised at changes made in the series. In almost every aspect this game shines.

inFamous: Second Son Takes Top Spot On UK Sales Chart, Titanfall Drops To Third

InfamousSS25

Sucker Punch Productions’ Infamous: Second Son saw an impressive debut in the UK; despite only being out for a days it took the number 1 spot on the sales charts according to the latest UKIE game charts. SS’s debut is the second biggest week 1 in the UK behind Guerilla Games’ Killzone: Shadowfall, which launched alongside Sony’s PlayStation 4 back in November.

Speaking of fall, EA and Respawn’s critically acclaimed first-person shooter Titanfall, (which previously held the no.1 spot following its March 13th release) fell to the no.3 spot as its sales dropped by 73% as Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes secured the no.2 spot. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X/X-2: HD Remaster took the number 4 spot while South Park: The Stick of Truth dropped to #5.

FIFA 14 manages to remain at no.6 while the previous no.2 spot holder, Dark Souls 2 took a dive to 7th. The Lego Movie Videogame, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition round out the remaining top 10.

PS4 Sales Reportedly Increase By 106% On inFamous: Second Son Launch Day

138

The PS4 took a pretty big leap in sales with its release of  Infamous: Second Son in the UK, a trusted source told MCV. The sales of the PS4 jumped by 106% last week as this exclusive debuted and jumped to the number one spot and pushed Titanfall down to number 3. Titanfall was able to push up the Xbox One’s sales, but only by 96%. While 96% is a respectable number it is clearly beat out by the 106% brought by Infamous.

Second Son also debuted at the No.1 spot on the UK charts.
