The Real Reason PS4 Pre-Load Doesn’t Exist Yet Is Piracy

PS4 VS Xbox ONE

After the entire Grand Theft Auto V PS3 Pre-Load fiasco in which the industry saw an entire game unlocked by the hacker community well ahead of release (followed by Sony / Rockstar pulling the title from PS3 Pre-Load until closer to release) and then the since recanted Titanfall Xbox ONE Pre-Load announcement, it seems the console video game industry just isn’t feeling ready for the Pre-Load feature seen on the PC Gaming platform Steam as a convenient way to avoid download and install times for release date launches.

The feature allows players to download and install a game, but not play it, in the weeks leading up to a game’s release date. Then, when the actual game releases players can simply boot up and play. Sony spoke on this feature today and let the world know that they are still deliberating the considerations to be made before we might ever see a PS4 Pre-Load feature for digital games.

Sony also did not commit to the possibility that this feature could also NOT make it to the PS4… only time will tell. In terms of design and progress, one would think this is an inevitability – however, some type of stronger security may be required for high demand titles that appear on the console.

5 Things About PlayStation 4 Controllers That You Didn’t Know

DualShock 4 PlayStation 4 Controller

Sony recently revealed a bunch of new information about the next-generation PlayStation 4 console’s DualShock 4 controllers. Some of the  new information came in the form of feature announcements, while others were revealed as revelations and thoughts that occurred throughout the development and engineering design processes of the DualShock 4’s development.

  • PlayStation 4 Controllers Work w/ PlayStation 3: Sony announced that their DualShock 4 line of controllers will also be compatible with existing, current-gen Sony PS3 consoles. Some of the features may or may not be supported, but players who might not have any DualShock 3’s around many years from now should appreciate this backwards-compatibility feature as an auxiliary bonus.
  • PlayStation 4 Controllers Work w/ Windows PC: Sony has also confirmed that basic support for Windows PC exists. The day the PlayStation 4 comes out, the DualShock 4 will already work upon being plugged into the Windows PC platform via USB cables. The touch-pad and other more advanced features could become available on Windows PC as well via updated drivers to release some time after the next-generation console’s launch.
  • PlayStation 4 Controllers Will Be Purchasable Before PS4 Releases: If you pre-order the DualShock 4 controller at Gamestop / EB Games, depending on how many they have in stock, you’ll be able to take it home and use it on PC / PS3 before the PlayStation 4 even releases. What’s more, some game stores will be allowed to sell the controllers without pre-order necessary.
  • Sony Considered Xbox 360-inspired Layout: Engineering at Sony had considered putting not only the left thumbstick but both thumbsticks above the face buttons and d-pad with those replaced to the center, bottom position that the thumbsticks sit in on PlayStation controllers. This design is similar to that of today’s Nintendo Wii U layout. In the end Sony has decided that it’s better to keep what gamers are familiar with than force them to reprogram their ‘muscle memory’ based on their layout change. The classic PlayStation layout remains.
  • Sony Considered Video Screen for Touchpad: The DualShock 4 for PlayStation 4 has a touchpad at the top-center of it. This black touchpad can be said to be similar to the one on the back of the PlayStation Vita visually, but that wasn’t always the case. In initial experiments and prototypes Sony considered implementing video screens with high quality graphics that were also touch screens. Eventually it became decided that the current technology was a better idea because gamers wouldn’t have to look away from their game and lose immersion now that there is not a video screen in their hands.

RGN POLL: PlayStation 4 was voted the “Most Wanted Nex Gen Console” by 56% of Gamers

RGN Poll PS4 XO

The results are in. At the time of this post the Sony PlayStation 4 has a massive lead over the Microsoft Xbox ONE in the RGN Nex Gen Poll. Xbox ONE is leagues beyond Valve’s console entry for Steam and the Nintendo Wii U however, and seems a formidable opposition has emerged once again between MS and SONY. Take a look at the numbers below at the time of this post, and if you don’t like them; vote! It’s not over until the fat lady sings.

RGN Nex Gen Poll

-PlayStation 4 was voted the “Most Wanted Nex Gen” by 56% of a sampling of 1,000 voters.

-Xbox ONE came in second by a strong lead with 26% of a sampling of 1,000 voters.

-Put together the Steambox from Valve and the Wii U from Nintendo divided the remaining 19% with 8% siding with Valve and 11% siding with Nintendo for their most wanted/preferred hardware during the next-generation cycle of gaming.

This RGN Nex Gen Poll will continue running and if you disagree with these results we offer you the chance to change them by voting by clicking on the RGN Poll on the side of your web browser or by visiting the Poll itself HERE.

Mad Max – Gameplay Revealed in New Video from WB Games [XO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC]; It Looks Good

Mad Max Nex Gen Video Game

Mad Max is the brand that arguably paved the way for the post-apocalyptic theme that is currently being widely embraced after slowly climbing in popularity among video game, television, music, and film audiences worldwide. Originally a movie that helped define a genre, Mad Max is now a video game heading to release on the next-generation video game consoles from Sony and Microsoft releasing later this year (XO and PS4, or Xbox ONE and PlayStation 4 respectively), with versions of the game releasing for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC as well. Mad Max drops in 2014 and is now available for pre-order.

Today a new trailer was released for the game giving us the emotion that starts this title off as well as the first glimpse at a few of the different gameplay elements the title will feature. There has been some online hate against the video from skeptics, which may explain why WB Games have turned off the comments for it, however we’d have to say it’s shaping up to look like a promising experience for anybody into the Mad Max franchise, or even the theme it has helped to inspire which now seems to be everywhere we turn.

Xbox ONE is for Real Gamers, and Some of You Just Aren’t

I’m a gamer. I enjoy to play video games. I personally play Xbox 360 mainly and play offline, but I also have PlayStation 3 and have been enjoying some titles on it again recently including The Last of Us from Naughty Dog. I don’t induldge in multiplayer modes, I don’t sync trophies, and yet even still – even I know that Xbox ONE’s digital world (which I will not be a part of at launch day) is the future, but some of you just don’t get it!

But, No Used Games? Buying used games actually doesn’t feed money to the people that made your game contrary to what some may tell you. If you want to support a video game developer or publisher for that matter, the only way to do it is to buy the game new. You don’t have to buy it on day one release date, and you can get it from any retailer you want, but if you buy the game used at Gamestop that means your purchase didn’t count towards the games almighty “sales” constantly being debated by fanboys. If you are a real gamer you’d be interested in giving back to developers by rewarding them with high sales numbers whenever a game comes out that is good (find out from Demos, Full Game Trials, friends lending the game to you, and more on Xbox ONE’s digital network).

More importantly, you are not giving back to the people who made that video game possible. Xbox ONE’s digital system will introduce a new format of used games that essentially eliminates the old “used games” industry habits we have grown accustomed to as physical media gamers. But if you’re not interested in giving back to those who made your games, frankly you don’t even deserve to play them anyways. The new Xbox ONE system allows publishers and developers to get paid for their hard work of making your game often including (but not limited to) an unhealthy amount of all-nighters away from family and unpaid overtime. Xbox ONE’s digital system allows you to create a personal “circle” of friends who will be able to do things like lend and borrow games with you as well as allow you to gift somebody a game without charging them anything.

But, Big Brother / Kinect / Always Online? If you aren’t online these days then you are probably like me and just enjoying the cinematic scenes of gameplay while relaxing with family after dinner. I’m a hard working man, and I personally don’t have time for competitive nature at this point in my life. When my young sport is rowdy enough to get into gaming full-speed I imagine we will end up playing the latest virtual reality games together on some high-tech, futuristic gaming platform that hardly resembles a home console we see today.

If you haven’t heard there’s a new law in the United States that makes it illegal for a company (examples: Sony, Google, Microsoft to name a few) to disclose whether or not their electronic products are being used to “spy” on the American public for Homeland Security purposes. Your cell phone calls, texts, every single app you download and install, every service you use on computers and laptops, at home and at work, and don’t forget your precious social accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and even your physical mail packages may be inspected at any time for Homeland Security purposes. These mechanisms are in place to protect you from military danger presented by enemies of the state, and not to stare at you while you play your latest Halo game. Honestly if you’re worried about Kinect and Big Brother then you need to go find a hut to live in out in the woods and even then you will still be monitored by global satellite positioning systems if you are seen as a threat to any sovereign nation capable of defending itself.

Always Online is a feature many groan and croak about online. That’s an extremely ironic thing, which is actually quite telling that most of you actually are always online anyways. If you aren’t sporting broadband you may still have a 4G phone which is capable of becoming a hot spot and providing nearly broadband speed without even plugging in any wires. Service can be pre-paid for about $50 a month with MetroPCS and 4G phones purchased for about a hundred bucks. If you’re really hard on your luck, everyone knows how to Wifi surf, find a Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds near you to check in to, if you’re in a nice neighborhood they might even let you hang out and play.

PS+ and PS4 Streaming Game Demos Online: Why would you want to be signed off for the next-generation of gaming when the PlayStation 4 can stream the entire game to you instantly? This is the first feature that will have an #AlwaysOfflineDRM gamer like me making the switch to on with consoles again. PC doesn’t even have a form where you can stream the entire game to your machine instantly, pause and buy it if you like it, download the rest as you finish playing, all without stopping the fluidity of the gameplay experience.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox ONE are for Real Gamers Only, we caution you again;

hating on either would be as silly as hating on the Sega Genesis or Super NES

(both of which were loaded with exclusive games that everyone loved).

Many have already seen what digital can do for them thanks to Valve’s Steam service. With Microsoft learning from many of their mistakes and presenting a lineup of exclusive games, third party support, indie lineup, and even experiments with a huge amount of New IPs from the first party publisher for the first 12 months of Xbox ONE, gamers can’t seem to stop focusing on the little things; as if desperate to split hairs and find a reason to hate on Microsoft. For revenge, for showing their true emotions, or for truly being misled, we can only guess. Real Gamers will support the companies that make their games and the New IPs being pumped out by once generic and beloved-for-no-reason Microsoft. If the rest of you won’t partake in discussing games then this tech debate will be the monument of how generation 8 of gaming is just as much of a boring press-battle between two machines just as generation 7 saw witness to.

Does anybody remember what DRM stands for? Digital Rights Management. If you were the creator of said game, would you want millions of gamers to skip paying you for making your game for $5 or $10 cheaper price? Think about it.

Rumor Confirmed: Plug Your Xbox 360 Into Xbox ONE

A rumor earlier reported on RealGamerNewz (Here) has become completely true after the combo-announcement of the Xbox 360 super slim as which will serve as the earlier rumored Xbox Mini as well as the new announcement from Major Nelson and Xbox today that the new Xbox 360 can plug into the Xbox ONE. So indeed backwards compatibility for those who do not want to plug in multiple systems will come as a gateway feature for the next-gen XO releasing from Microsoft later this year. Stay tuned to our Xbox ONE section for all the latest News.

Amazon Reveals Xbox ONE Release Coming Before PlayStation 4?

Amazon has recently bumped up the release date for Xbox ONE copies of Call of Duty Ghosts to get free release-date shipping on Tuesday November 5, 2013. This pre-order was originally only scheduled for this date on older consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (as well as PC and Wii U versions and so on). Now gamers are able to actually pre-order this for the November 5th date on the Xbox ONE itself. Could this be a signal that Call of Duty Ghosts is releasing for XO that date because the XO will already be on the market? Only time will tell. It appears Amazon may have accidently shared that fact which is Microsoft could be aiming for an early attack again this generation by releasing at the beginning of the month on the same day as Call of Duty Ghosts, or even by launching in October with its new exclusive TV series Heroes 2 and Halo TV with Call of Duty Ghosts right around the corner.

Call of Duty Ghosts will release November 5, 2013 with exclusive DLC for the Microsoft XO (Xbox ONE) that launches first on the system. Xbox ONE is being said to release later this year. PlayStation 4 is set for a “Holiday 2013” release date currently and Amazon has its arrival listed at the end of December (this is likely a placeholder date to be updated with a mid-November date presumably).
