H1Z1 Impressions Pt II – Updates, Lag, Players Become Zombies After Death

H1Z1 - Steam Early Access Impressions - RealGamerNewz Pt 2

Hello again RGN Readers, it’s me, John Clark of the RealGamerNewz Community, back again to tell you my experience first hand with the latest updates H1Z1 has had rolled out for it. More news has been coming in about H1Z1 and how the game is moving on in a new direction. From day 1 without ceasing to this day, H1Z1 has received tons of updates and bug fixes which genuinely improve the game. The latest update has fixed a lot of imbalance which originally existed in the game, and makes it more of a survival title and less of just a shooter online with food hanging around.

One of the neat things you might not know about H1Z1 which was revealed recently by the development team is that when players die they actually have become zombies in the population of the undead (though you cannot play as one). Meaning, when you kill a zombie to a player who never had his dead body’s items taken then you’ll end up getting those items from a zombie. Crazy right? I didn’t believe it myself at first, reddit here. I’m not sure how long that part of the game has been live but in the most recent update there was a lot of cleaning up done to the overall balance of this game.

In this update they’ve made it harder for you to survive which made things more fun for me personally as well as having my backpack changed from 1500 to 600 capacity. A lot of items take up more room now which is good and bad at the same time because you have less over-powered folks but you also have less of a chance of surviving through the right situation if you aren’t very well thought out on preparations before making a trip.

I do feel screwed over because of a server wipe eliminating all of the work I’ve done thus far in the game, but I enjoy H1Z1 enough to keep playing it, writing about it, and telling others about it – so the development team must be doing something right. Ever since the latest reboot, servers are running great. There’s much less lag in the game now. Even more imbalance issues were addressed recently including finding loot being too easy (it’s much harder now).

Rare items are also a lot harder to find now. I personally haven’t seen or come across any enemies or players using the most rare items yet since the update in fact, so it’s taking some time for things to progress back to that level. Graphics are looking better than ever and in the upcoming update there are plans for expanding H1Z1 even further. I hope you enjoyed reading what I had to say and let me know what you think about the game if you play, or if you don’t – consider checking it out. Thank you, peace out.

If you play H1Z1 and want to meet up and level up with me or go into towns, villages, and camp sites together make sure you are ready and add me. My in-game name is John1989

RealGamerNewz H1Z1 Steam Early Access Impressions

H1Z1 RealGamerNewz Preview Impressions Steam Early Access PC Gaming SOE Sony

Hello RGN Readers, my name is John Clark and I’m part of the RealGamerNewz Community. I’ve been playing H1Z1 for the few weeks now that it’s been available on Steam Early Access and in my opinion if you’re into the survival horror meets action genre of video games then this is the game for you. Here are my thoughts and impressions of the game thus far at the timing of this post.

I must say, H1Z1 is phenomenally well put together. There are two types of gameplay I see on it that are on the forefront but this is only minimalist compared to what others can do with a little time and creative ingenuity. Of course, creation is limited to what you can also defend since this is a persistent world game with plenty of PvE but also PvP elements that can often be brutal and unforgiving. In that sense, H1Z1 is very straightforward, kill or die!

At the start of the game all you really have as a survivalist player is a back pack with some rags and a flare. From the start players must go around the map looking for food, wood, metal, and water, and in the midst of doing this have zombies running after them not to mention wolves. If you’re the type to delve into PvP moments either on purpose or by accident, you’ll end up with over players trying to kill you for your lot or sometimes they team up with you and make a group to help you out and get better / stronger in both PvP as well as PvE.

To get good at H1Z1 players have to just stick with it, the zombies and wolves are there for killing and you have to adapt every 30 minutes or so to find food currently plus drink some type of clean water before you die of hunger and starvation. In my opinion, the air drops that players can pay for in the game are perfectly fair except I don’t see them often enough as a person not paying for them – I was promised the chance to shoot them down or steal them from other players if I’m in their vicinity. Hopefully I get to live out that promised experience soon. If you ask me, there are too many campers who use a campfire as a friendly fire warning but then shoot you anyways in the back of the head. One time a few people picked me up and brought me around and then spoke to me about teaming up with me. Suddenly, one departed from the group briefly. He then proceeded to kill me. This kind of thrill is exhilarating and fun but there needs to also be an equal way for players to team up together. Giving each other just 2% of what you get isn’t seeming fair to me.

If you play H1Z1 and want to meet up and level up with me or go into towns, villages, and camp sites together make sure you are ready and add me. My in-game name is John1989

No EASHL in NHL 15 Next Gen? No Money from My Wallet

Charlie B RealGamerNewz

The following article was sent in by Charlie Bernier of the RGN Community and Boston Area who would like his voice to be heard as a lifetime fan of the NHL and NHL video game series by EA Sports:

Many of you may have heard that EA sports NHL 15 is going to be leaving out the most played game mode in the franchise on next gen consoles. Fans are outraged- including me. Many people had their next gen consoles on lay away pre order just for NHL; for those buying destiny bundle pack edition ps4’s, NHL was released on the same date. Luckily, I enjoy other titles. EASHL (EA sports hockey league) is a mode that was brought to the franchise in NHL 2009. There are some who only play this game and also only play one mode of this game.  This game completely broke the barriers for online gaming as a team with your friends/ family.

In NHL, you control a single position on the ice while anywhere from 1-5 other live team players can control the other positions. The game has a RPG style of a level system. You start off as an amateur 1 (displayed by upper deck hockey cards) and work your way up to your legend 3 card.  You get more stats for every card you acquire. Also, for doing certain milestones and objectives you get boost equips for your hockey gear. In total, you can have an extremely skill based 6vs6 games; in these games you rely on your team mates to win and it’s not just a single player. This on its own makes the game very unique.

I’ve played with the same group of people for 5 years now since it was introduced. We have spent years building chemistry, set plays, and learning what to do and what not to do in certain situations. Now why would EA sports leave out the most exciting game mode, the most highly played game mode, the most interactive game mode?! This next gen system is what so many of us have been waiting for since last year’s installment (NHL 14). This came out only a couple months before ps 4 and x box one. They wanted a year to build the game from the ground up yet failed! Here is a link, if anyone is interested, about the reasons why this fool, Sean Ramjagsingh (head developer for NHL series), left out not only the most innovative game mode but also a new up and coming mode known as GM connected.

EA Sports NHL 15

I call BULLSHIT!!! on EVERTHING he said! Maybe it’s difficult working with a brand new engine but they had over a year to work on it. Most companies that are smart realized, “hey next gens are coming out in 2 or 3 years better start working on everything now.” However, as usual, the corrupt money hungry lazy company that is EA put in another mode known as HUT (hockey ultimate team mode). This is a mode where you purchase card packs for a currency of pucks using real life cash; this ruins everything might I add. This allows little rich brats to steal mommy’s or daddy’s credit card and build an unstoppable team. Nothing wrong with that, I do not play that mode. Due to the fact that you can now purchase things that make you unstoppable, a lot of us NHL fans call this “Hockey ultimate greed” mode. EA makes more money off one person than 6-10 people in a club (EASHL). Therefore, once again, EA made the biggest money grabber the priority before the most loved and played mode EASHL

I will be purchasing my copy of NHL 15 used a few weeks after it comes out to make sure the lesser of the 2 evils, Game Stop, gets my money before EA does. Also, I am planning on never giving EA anymore of my own money ever again. I have high hopes Sean Ramjagsingh gets fired as head developer of the EA sports NHL franchise. I will miss all my friends I play hockey with for many years; we made a good team. Who knows, maybe we can have a money spending war and see who can build the most expensive team on HUT….. NOT. I would lose that battle real quick!

I’d like to end by saying:

BOYCOTT GIVING EA SPORTS MONEY HERE’S ANOTHER LINK TO A VIDEO YOU CAN WATCH TO PETITION GETTING EASHL BACK INTO THE FRANCHISE FOR NEXT-GEN.

LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!!

This is my first post to RGN. Thank you to my good friend and childhood friend Jon Ireson for giving me this chance to voice my thoughts on this whole thing.

Here is some footage of us playing on the Moon in Destiny’s Beta for PlayStation 4. I accidentally equipped a crappy shotgun instead of my trademark sniper rifle during the start of this match. This is one complete play-through of the main mission on the Moon but events can also happen on the Moon with multiple fire-teams working together for a common goal. Some light editing has been done to avoid spoilers. Oh, and don’t mind my friends (at the end they decided to get a little nasty loving going on). Here’s how to get on the Moon in Destiny.

Destiny Pre-Orders are available now and the full game releases on September 9, 2014 with co-op campaign as well as competitive multiplayer Crucible mode. Stay tuned to RealGamerNewz.com for a Full Review coming soon. Join us for RGN Game Nights and RGN Community meet-ups on all platforms.

RGN Community: Ubisoft Not a Sexist Company, Assassin’s Creed Producer is Female [It Just Never Ends: An Ubisoft Tale]

Jade Raymond

I didn’t want to do a blog on this. I was sitting in front of my laptop when this B.S. first came out saying to myself “this is just something that will never end, don’t do a blog on it, don’t, just don’t. There’s only been about 20 different sites talking about it and getting so much wrong, don’t bother.” Then after 2 days of not really hearing much, Eurogamer comes out with its contribution to “Ubisoft is sexist and is harming women” piece and I just had to say something.

I’m not gonna bother linking articles about this topic because I don’t want to destroy the brain cells of the rare few who still have common sense in the world. Instead I’ll just give you the gist.

Assassin’s Creed Unity doesn’t have a female main protagonist, and that’s apparently a problem. Never mind the fact that only one AC game had a female protagonist and it sold terrible, indicating that few people deemed it a good enough game to buy. Never mind the fact that AC games try to be as reasonably close to the historical time period as possible which means that women, traditionally, wouldn’t be Assassins. Never mind the fact that there have actually been female Assassins in games, and side stories like Embers.

No, the only way for this to NOT be an issue is if there is a main female protagonist in a main Assassin’s Creed game. Then, and only then, will Ubisoft START being a “progressive” developer, despite having an immensely diverse staff which includes Jade Raymond who was probably the most influential person in getting Assassin’s Creed, as a series, noticed in the first place.

So Ubisoft is sexist and patriarchal and misogynistic because Arno isn’t Arnette and you can’t make him so.

Ubisoft actually gave a really legitimate reason for this. Resources. See, people don’t seem to understand that AC Unity didn’t JUST start development. It’s been in development for years. It’s releasing in the fall so about 2/3 of the development has likely been finished already. Why would any developer scrap years of work?

Now, there were people out there that didn’t buy Ubisoft’s reason. A lot in fact. This prompted a FORMER animator on AC 3 to come out and say “Ubisoft could do this in 2 or 3 days” and caused an uproar. There is a huge problem with that though. What people are ignoring is that he said the only way to do it in that short a time is to just reskin the male model to look female and use androgynous movements.

Did you read that? Make a female protagonist by reskinning the male protagonist and using gender neutral movements.

Does anyone think that that would fly? OF COURSE NOT! Social Justice Warriors would pitch a fit. Remember when Anita Sarkeesian made a video about this very thing? About how it’s a negative and common trope to make a woman as much like a man as possible? Welcome to that solution.

Look, this isn’t an issue. I don’t understand how anyone who thinks rationally can see a problem here. These are games. They aren’t real life. Ubisoft have several legitimate reasons for doing this, but they only need one. They could have easily just come out and said “because we don’t want a female main protagonist.”

But that’s B.S. I can’t believe there are grown adults out there that actually think there is a concerted effort, by large development studios filled with women, to purposely not have a female protagonist in a game. As if Yves (Ubisoft’s CEO) gathers everyone together and says “Don’t even THINK about having a female lead in ANY of our games. As long as I live, that will NEVER happen!”

It wouldn’t have mattered what reason Ubisoft gave. The fact is that someone, with a full attitude of entitlement, just had to approach Ubisoft and ask why the main protagonist wasn’t female, or why you couldn’t customize your character to be female. The best answer, besides the resources one, would have been to explain how mechanics from Watch Dogs were implemented into the multiplayer and that’s a BIG reason why they couldn’t do that, but even that wouldn’t have mattered. People wanted to crucify yet another developer for something so inconsequential that it’s laughable.

There are people with degrees, honest to goodness post-secondary education degrees, foaming at the mouth acting like rabid dogs attacking Ubisoft for this. It’s sad, it’s pathetic, and there are toddlers with more maturity than this.

A character’s gender, race, orientation, hair style, favourite book, DO NOT MATTER UNLESS THE GAME WAS DESIGNED AROUND THOSE ELEMENTS! You will not have a better or worse experience with a black lesbian woman than you would with a straight white man. A good game is a good game is a good game regardless of that, and the same goes for a bad game.

If you want to criticize Ubisoft, then criticize them for trying to create a franchise style rather than their choice of gender for their characters. They are definitely marred in their own conventions, but gender is the most inconsequential of their offences in this regard. Just read the hilarious Games.on.net review of Ubisoft Game to see what I mean.

At the end of the day, if you’re unwilling to actually contribute to making changes in the industry that you want, then you have no right to complain that people who actually spend the money, and the time away from their families, to make these games make them in ways that don’t cater to you. The responsibility of Ubisoft is to make a game you’ll buy, and I still see women buying games with white male protagonists in them so Ubisoft must be doing something right.

Art is the expression of the artist, not the audience. Games are entertainment, not life. If you’re for the freedom to express yourself the way you want to (including your incessant whining about inconsequential minutia like what’s in between a fictional person’s legs), then you have to be for the freedom of others (even companies) to do the same. If you just want these companies to cater to your whims, then you’re actually for privilege and entitlement and YOU’RE what’s wrong with gaming.
