Originally released for Xbox 360 and Xbox One earlier this year with a PC release next month, PvZ: Garden Warfare will soon be available on Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles on August 19th, 2014.
A spin-off of the Plants vs. Zombies series which are primarily tower defense games, Garden Warfare is a frantic and ridiculously fun third-person shooter that runs on EA’s popular Frostbite 3 engine. Players can choose to team up with 3 others and defend the garden against waves of zombies in the 4 player co-op mode Garden Ops or battle online competitively in the game’s addicting 24-player team-based multiplayer modes. The game features a plethora of unlockable content including new abilities, character classes, customization options and more.
For the past few days Popcap games had been teasing fans with images suggesting that popular shooter would in fact be making its way to Sony platforms. These images featured a Plants vs. Zombies take on popular PlayStation exclusive games such as Fat Princess, and the Rachet and Clank and Sly Cooper franchises.

Players will be able to play PvZ: GW for PS4 on the PS Vita via the popular Remote Play feature for some on the go action. Similar to the Xbox One’s version of the game, the PS4 version will also feature the exclusive Boss Mode. This mode allows players to provide air support on the battlefield, through the use of a flying drone which can call in airstrikes, heal teammates and more. Boss mode can only be played as a companion experience for mobile devices via the PlayStation App. PS4 owners will also have the option to play the game’s co-op mode via split-screen. Additionally Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will be playable at 60 frames per second and a native 1080p resolution.
The PS3 and PS4 versions will contain all of the current free DLC that has been released for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions. So players will not have to worry about downloading the Garden Variety Pack and the ZomBoss Down pack as everything will be on the disc. Any more DLC planned for release will most likely be free as well. EA allowed Bioware to release many free DLC packs for Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer and it seems this will be a running theme with Garden Warfare.
Our very own DJ Killzone Jones reviewed the Xbox One version rewarding it an 8/10 and calling it “a great 3rd person shooter that captures the essence of the original tower defense games but brings an entirely fresh and new experience.”
Having played the game on Xbox 360 extensively I can attest that statement despite missing out on the exclusive Boss mode and split-screen. So give it a read, if you are looking for new and fun multiplayer experience. Those who pre-order the game will receive exlcusive customization options inspired by the Sly Cooper, Rachet and Clank and Fat Princess games.
